Lil Tjay has wasted very little time in getting back to his life’s exploits following his recent arrest in Miami… but just in case, he’s got some new watches to keep track. Moreover, you may have already heard that authorities arrested him on a warrant at a Miami airport on Tuesday (April 30), which just so happened to be his 23rd birthday. After reportedly leaving on a $500 bond, the Bronx rapper got right back to business and invited Benny “The Jeweler” Nisanov on a private jet to but $500K in watches from him. “@liltjay SAID HE WANNA SPEND 500K FOR HIS BDAY!!…” The Jeweler captioned an IG post of them on their flight around Thursday (May 2). “23 YEARS YOUNG THIS HOW WE COMIN. RICHARD MILLE WHITE @bubbawatson AND SECOND #5980 BUSS DOWN PATEK WE OUTSIDE !!”

Furthermore, Lil Tjay had already flexed on the authorities by showing off his private jet after police released him from custody, so this is just adding onto all that. However, despite all this aftermath that he was able to document, it’s still very unclear what happened with this arrest in the first place. Pretty much the only piece of tangible information out there was that authorities reportedly had a warrant. Little else emerged about this incident since, and it’s unclear whether there will be any more info given past legal issues.

Speaking of which, Lil Tjay has faced a couple of these throughout his career, including a January 2023 arrest in New York City due to gun possession. He was infamously supposed to record a music video with Ice Spice at the time. Later that year, NYPD also detained the now-23-year-old briefly on alleged and additional charges of reckless endangerment and obstructing governmental administration. 2024’s been much more low-key for him apart from this arrest, bolstered mostly by singles like “Good Life.”

Meanwhile, speaking of Ice Spice, there are rumors currently floating around that she cheated on her boyfriend and producer RiotUSA with Lil Tjay. These are based on claims from her alleged former best friend, which have gone viral on Twitter. Do you think that this is just hearsay or might there be another big headline about them in 2024? Let us know in the comments and check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates.

SteveWillDoIt has been a vocal critic of 6ix9ine for some time now, and recently, he decided to take their feud to the next level. In a video posted earlier this week, the YouTube personality was seen alongside the rapper’s baby mother and child, who he flew out. He provided them with luxurious gifts, including a Birkin and some jewelry. He even went so far as to promise them $12K each month for a year, $20K for the child’s education, and more. Moreover, he claimed to have adopted 6ix9ine’s child, though it doesn’t appear as though this part of the gag was real.

For obvious reasons, SteveWillDoIt is under the impression that 6ix9ine’s not too happy with him right now. According to him, he could even be in danger. He took to Twitter/X yesterday to share some alleged DMs between him and the performer. He also let fans know that if anything happens to him, it’s likely that 6ix9ine was responsible.

Who wants to see the messages between us ??? I’ll straight up show you paragraphs of messages cuz I love and trust you.”

He then went on to share the alleged messages, in which he accuses 6ix9ine of scamming him out of $2M, and more. SteveWillDoIt also praised 6ix9ine’s daughter, encouraging him to reach out to her. 6ix9ine didn’t say much, however, simply telling Steve that he’s a “nice guy.” What do you think of SteveWillDoIt suggesting that if he gets “hurt,” 6ix9ine was responsible? In a new interview with Dazed published Wednesday (May 1), SZA spoke on only being considered an R&B artist because she’s Black. It’s a mistake that we and many others have committed in the past, not just as outlets and publications in white-dominant and often exploitative media spaces, but as non-Black audiences comparing Black art to the white-dominant spaces of pop music at large. It’s an issue that many Black artists like Tyler, The Creator have addressed to varying degrees.

Most importantly, it’s not meant to detach the St. Louis native from R&B, which she’s made a lot of, but rather to accurately assess the full range of musical styles that she employs as a pop artist, whose only defining characteristic is… well, being a popular artist that writes with pop song structures, which are not at all exclusive to the typical music genre expectations we associate with “pop.” “The only reason I’m defined as an R&B artist is because I’m Black,” SZA remarked. “It’s almost a little reductive because it doesn’t allow space to be anything else or try anything else. Justin Bieber is not considered an R&B artist. He is a pop artist who makes R&B, folk music, or whatever his heart desires.

“I simply just want to be allowed the same opportunity to make whatever I want without a label. [Without it being] based on the color of my skin, or the crew that I run with, or the beats that I choose,” SZA continued. “I want ‘F2F’ to be seen as what it is. I want ‘Nobody Gets Me’ to be seen as what it is, I want ‘Kill Bill’ to be seen as what it is.

“At the same time, it’s nothing to get bent out of shape about. Because it’s just how people are processing you,” SZA concluded. “As long as I don’t process myself that way. I don’t necessarily box myself into anything. I’m just trying to make music, trying to vibe out and enjoy the experience.”

Artists canceling their concerts the day of has become a menace for some fans. Though last minute changes of plan are sometimes unavoidable, certain acts have a reputation for late cancelations. That isn’t the case for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, nor is the overnight last-minute cancelation of his show in Manchester his fault. The venue waited until the absolute last minute to cancel the show with fans having already started lining up outside. In fact, it wasn’t until 10 minutes after doors were scheduled to open that the cancelation of the show was announced.

The show was set to take place at Manchester’s new Co-Op Live. The freshly opened venue is off to a very rough start. Kendrick Lamar’s disses towards Drake on “euphoria” are sometimes imperfect, such as the Joel Osteen and Haley Joel Osment mix-up. But even that still makes sense (at least, a little bit), and there are other criticisms against the diss track that, while valid, don’t hold up under a ton of scrutiny. For one, a clip resurfaced on the Internet of a white fan rapping the n-word onstage with K.Dot during his performance of “m.A.A.d. city,” which is -– or rather, was -– a staple of many of his live shows. The reason why it’s relevant to bring up is because of the final shot that he took at Drizzy on his new song: “We don’t want to hear you say n***a no more.”

Furthermore, many called out the hypocrisy that this seemingly suggests, but other fans quickly brought up that Kendrick Lamar already addressed this very same conflict on his 2022 track “Auntie Diaries.” However, the viral instance that he referred to on that song about how he “let a white girl say n***a” happened in 2018, and wasn’t this particular clip. It’s also important to note that this footage below, seemingly from much earlier on in his career, ends abruptly, so we don’t know if there is more context or something that the rapper might’ve said afterwards. Back to that 2018 incident, though, the white fan said the n-word while rapping the chorus to “m.A.A.d. city” (just like this older clip), Kendrick stopped the music and corrected her, and then allowed her to go on after she apologized.

Within the context of “Auntie Diaries,” Kendrick Lamar referred to that 2018 moment as a way to call out his own hypocrisy for using the f-slur in relation to the LGBTQIA2+ community. Either everyone can say anything or folks should actually hold others accountable for the bigotry, discrimination, and violent history that their words perpetuate. But let’s also be very clear: this article has been a lot of explaining, something that Drake also deserves as far as misconceptions spreading about his racial identity, his upbringing, and his place in the rap game. Needless to say, both fanbases are definitely reaching occasionally to try to discredit the other.

Meanwhile, there’s a good chance that Drake will probably try to flip this against Kendrick Lamar in whatever he cooks up in response to “euphoria.” After all, both have done a decent job so far of retorting to each and every point that their opponent makes on wax. What’s more is that neither has really dropped “the bomb” yet, something that we don’t even know is a possibility against two titans of their stature and career history. But anything’s possible, so we’ll see how this argument holds up in the discourse.

Last week, an artist who goes by Baby Storme hopped online to “expose” her alleged ex-bestie, Ice Spice. She accused the femcee of colorism, cheating, and more. The concerning and unconfirmed allegations didn’t stop there, however. Earlier today, she took aim at Drake, accusing him of being a “raging predator.” According to her, Drake allegedly tried to sleep with Ice Spice under the guise of wanting her to sign to OVO Sound.

“Something a lot of people don’t know about @Drake is: just like Epstein, Weinstein, and Schneider, Aubrey Graham is a raging predator. He was trying to f*ck Isis when she was 22 years old til now, but disguised it as wanting to sign her to Ovo. He even offered to propose. The only women he can get are young girls who don’t know any better & pornstars. (hence why the mother of his child is a pornstar.) He sold his soul, & his life is ruined. That is not a happy man. And it shows,” Baby Storme alleged.

If you are a fan of underground rap, you are probably familiar with OsamaSon. If you aren’t familiar, then that is okay. You will be soon enough. Overall, he is a rapper and producer known for an extremely harsh and blown-out sound that will not play to everyone’s tastes. However, as it turns out, this style of rap is becoming very popular among the youth right now. They are tired of the cookie cutter beats being put out by the game’s biggest producers. Instead, fans want that extra rush of dopamine, and these wild production choices scratch that itch.

Recently, OsamaSon dropped off a brand-new track called “Just Score It.” Overall, this is a song that had been out in the ether for quite some time. Much like other underground acts, OsamaSon has a steady stream of snippets and leaks making the rounds. However, on SoundCloud, the track was officially released for fans to consume. “Yellowbone Tina, dark skin Keisha, hood b*tch, she gon’ set it off like Latifah,” Maxo raps, as the camera cuts to the women named. “Bad b*tch down in Miami like Trina, bougie b*tch, only ride Benz or Beamer / B*tch named Katrina, tell me, have you seen her? Hurricane p*ssy so wet, call FEMA.”

Jpegmafia‘s third solo album All My Heroes Are Cornballs isn’t out until Friday via EQT Recordings, LLC, but that didn’t stop the Los-Angeles-based artist from releasing a new song this week. Tuesday, Jpegmafia rolled out single “Beta Male Strategies”. The track is the third track on Jpegmafia’s 18-track effort and second single. The trailer also teased some “special appearances” by supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevigne, and Joan Smalls, along with singing sensation Normani and actress Laverne Cox, providing an interesting departure from the more conservative Victoria’s Secret show that Savage is clearly competing with. Savage was an instant hit for its inclusivity policy, marketing to a wider range of body types and using less conventional models in its promotions. When customers have pointed out issues with sizing ranges and the like, Rihanna herself has stepped in at times to address their concerns, contrasting sharply with Victoria’s Secret’s approach.

Combined with Rihanna’s ubiquitous international brand, Savage has become an instant hit and tonight’s show is almost guaranteed to make it bigger than ever. The show is set to stream September 20.

Rapsody‘s “Oprah” video goes back to the hood to showcase Black unity and power. From shooting dice with big-faced hundreds on the corner around a handle of Bumbu Rum to taking a homeless man on a joy ride with her in her Audi, Rapsody shows Black pride throughout her latest visual. Rapsody premiered the video on her Instagram account Monday.

In the video, Rapsody takes a homeless man to her food drive, the “People’s Free Food Program” — a reference to the food program originally started by the Black Panthers in the 1970s. The man receives a bag of groceries and a wad of cash from Rapsody before making off with a smile. Rapsody continues on with her day, popping Belaire at the grand opening of her Black-owned business. Scenes of the music video cut back and forth from Rapsody sitting down while draped in all black with an Oprah Winfrey quote above, “If you don’t tell them they won’t get told.” The message is clear: Black people helping each other will help everyone in the long run.

Rapsody’s “Oprah” visual comes on the heels of her “Nina” video. Both are a part of Rapsody’s third solo album Eve released via Roc Nation last month. In addition, Rapsody’s set to perform with Meek Mill for the NFL’s “Kickoff Experience” campaign, and she will tour with Big KRIT starting next week.

In a new Complex cover story, emo-rap pioneer Kid Cudi reveals that not only is he working on new music, but that his next album will also be the soundtrack to a Netflix animated show he is developing with Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. Cudi calls the project a “new, fun, and exciting way to write music,” and says that it will come out next year.

When Complex interviewer Karizza Sanchez asks Cudi about his recent tweet that he has new music on the way, Cudi revealed that “a lot of the songs are about love and relationships.” He also detailed some of the specifics about the upcoming album, saying that it would be a narrative format using the show’s character as his voice.

I can’t say much ’cause the music isn’t gonna come out till next year. But I will tell you this: I’m working on a Netflix TV show, an animated TV show, and Kenya Barris is producing it. My next album will be the music for the first season of the show, and the music will narrate the story. So a lot of the songs aren’t really from the Scott perspective; they’re from the perspective of the character.

Cudi also says he’s working on another, separate show with Jordan Peele of Get Out and Us fame.

I had this idea for the show, and then it was like, how can we incorporate the music? How can we have the music be a part of the show? I initially wanted to make a visual album, but I was like, that’s been done before. How can we give it a little twist? How can we do something different? That’s how I came up with the idea for the show, Entergalactic. I’m trying my hardest to still introduce new sounds and push the envelope, sonically. So it’s still gonna be like everything that people love about Kid Cudi music. The only difference is that it’s gonna be told from a different perspective.

You can read the full interview at Complex. Kid Cudi also has upcoming roles in the new Bill & Ted movie, opioid crisis drama Dreamland, the next season of Westworld, and an HBO series from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino titled We Are Who We Are.

Swae Lee’s ex-girlfriend was arrested after allegedly headbutting him, according to TMZ. The police were reportedly called to Swae’s LA home, where he and his ex-girlfriend Marliesia Ortiz had apparently had an argument which escalated into a physical altercation.

At first, Ortiz allegedly threw objects at Swae, according to police. After that, Ortiz struck him with her hands and went so far as to headbutt the rapper. The cause of the argument is unknown. Swae’s security kicked Ortiz out after things got physical, but it was actually Ortiz who called the police to his residence.

While on the phone with police, Ortiz said he sexually assaulted her, but admitted that she started the altercation that led to his house items being broken and her hitting him when the cops came. Ortiz was arrested for falsifying her accusations over the phone, though no charges related to the physical incident were filed. The LA City Attorney has decided to hold a City Attorney hearing with both parties over the incident at a future date. We’ll have more on this story as news develops.

Swae Lee’s gearing up for the release of his sophomore solo album and a tour with Post Malone this month. “Won’t Be Late” with Drake and “Sextasy” are a part of the album’s rollout.

lil-wayne-jpg-23.jpeg

This past weekend, Lil Wayne‘s Lil Weezyana Fest took place at UNO Lakefront Arena with a crowd estimated around 15,000 concertgoers. According to The Times-Picayune’s NOLA.com, a large number of those concertgoers stampeded following Meek Mill‘s set, causing damage to the festival grounds, reports of injuries, and thefts of both cash and alcohol in the aftermath.

While police were unsure of what caused the stampede, speculating that false reports of gunfire or a fight set the crowd off, the results were inarguable. The chaos damaged concession booths and a medical tent near the stage, while cash registers and tip jars were stolen in the rush. Some attendees took advantage of the abandoned concessions to take bottles of liquor or pour themselves drinks.

However, the show eventually resumed with Travis Scott restoring a semblance of order with his set, while Lil Wayne brought out Future and surprise guests, hometown heroes Choppa and Cheeky Blakk. Unfortunately, no announcement was made referring to the disturbance, prompting some attendees to leave early. One was noted as saying: “My brother said to me and my cousin, ‘Run. Just run. I don’t know what’s happening.’ I turned around at one point to see what was happening, but everyone was running away. No cops were going toward” the origin of the stampede.

The 2019 edition of the Lil Weezyana Fest was the first at UNO Lakefront, moving from Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square in downtown New Orleans. The move allowed the festival’s organizers to increase the capacity by double and while growing pains for scaling festivals are to be expected, it seems the organizers were caught off guard by the new security needs.

Kanye West returned to his hometown to spread his gospel music. The rapper hosted a Chicago edition of his weekly Sunday Service performance and offered free entry. He entranced the crowd with motivational words and several of his hit songs during the 90-minute event.

Though the event was free, attendees required tickets to gain entry. According to ABC 7 Chicago, these tickets sold out in less than an hour. Those who were lucky enough to snag one made sure they lined up early enough to get a good spot. Before the outdoor venue opened its gates, thousands lined the streets and braved stormy weather in order to get a chance to see the rapper.

Last week, Nicki Minaj announced she would be retiring from music in order to start a family in a decision that shocked fans and the music community alike. Some responded with congratulations and others disappointment. Like 50 Cent, who wasn’t too happy about Nicki’s decision. The rapper took to social media, as usual, to share his opinion.

50 Cent posted a photo of Nicki and her new husband Kenneth Petty, saying he wishes the rapper would just take some time off rather than calling it quits. “Both these n*ggas crazy, but you know you gotta love it SOUTH SIDE. I don’t want Nicki Minaj to retire just take a break.”

Since making the sudden announcement about leaving her music, Nicki apologized to fans for the “abrupt [and] insensitive” news. Nicki promised that she’d further explain her decision on the next episode of Queen Radio on Beats 1. “I’m still right here,” she tweeted. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

Though Nicki just made the announcement about taking a break from music, she’s had these plans in line for years. In a 2015 interview, Nicki mentioned starting a family. She believes there is “a housewife somewhere” in her heart.

https://twitter.com/goodsisnicki/status/1169728632815837185

In the same clip, Nicki said she would want to have at least five albums before she leaves to build a family, meaning her upcoming record will be her last for a while. “In terms of music, I would like to have at least five albums done so that I could come back and speak from a mother’s perspective.”

If you know anything about producer, rapper, and style icon 88-Keys — aka Charles Misodi Njapa — it’s that the man has stories. From meeting Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip at age 14 to crate-digging with Pete Rock to his lifelong love of Ralph Lauren’s clothes (he’s only worn Polo head-to-toe since ’93), 88-Keys has been at the center of some of the biggest moments in hip-hop and streetwear over the past three decades. Period.

In this episode of The Masters, host Eli Morgan Gesner sits down with the legend to talk about his rise in the late 90s hip-hop scene, his obsessions (both musically and stylistically), and working with legends from Kanye to Mos Def to the late Mac Miller. If you’re from that era or a student of history, you’ll want to check it out.

The Masters launches next Wednesday on Youtube.com/UproxxVideo and here, on Uproxx.com/Style.

While on their “Legendary Nights” tour with Meek Mill and Megan Thee Stallion, Mustard and Future have released their second music video together in as many months with “Interstate 10,” the fifth track on Mustard’s latest album, Perfect Ten.

The video starts with a flash-forward of cops pursuing Mustard and Future, who are weaving in and out of lanes during a nighttime chase before cutting to the duo in a poolhall, smoking and joking while they plot out a heist. Eventually, the gang straps up with guns and heads out. While in the bank, one security guard is smacked with a chopper, while the other gets sniped at point-blank range. After securing the premises and ordering the banks’ occupants to the ground, Mustard and Future peel off like bandits with bags full of cash. Escaping through the back, the gang pushes a button to blow up the bank when the cops arrive.

Perfect Ten was released in June via Interscope, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Currently, Mustard’s supporting Future and Meek Mill on the road as part of the Legendary Nights tour. The trio of rap artists collaborated on loose-single “100 Shooters” in July in anticipation of the aforementioned tour, and hung out with models in the song’s video.

After spending a decade as the queen of hip-hop, Nicki Minaj has apparently decided to abdicate her throne and take a stab at being a family woman. The “Megatron” rapper sent a tweet to that effect earlier today after previously congratulating Lizzo on going No. 1 and praising Rapsody and Missy Elliott‘s new projects.

https://twitter.com/NICKIMINAJ/status/1169676721865412608

“I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” she wrote. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, ‘X’ in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.” The announcement comes a little over year since the release of her most recent album, Queen.

Where Nicki’s announcement would have once left a huge void in hip-hop for female representation, today, there are dozens of new female rappers experiencing levels of success even Nicki herself never achieved. Many of the new female rappers taking over the game now count Nicki as one of their biggest inspirations. In recent months, Nicki even made efforts to pass the torch after begrudgingly doing so unofficially in late 2017 with her appearance on Migos’ “Motorsport” alongside eventual rival Cardi B. This year, Nicki not only praised other female rappers for carrying on her legacy, but also appeared with Megan Thee Stallion on “Hot Girl Summer.” She also represented for New York hip-hop with a guest verse on Pop Smoke’s burgeoning hit “Welcome To The Party.”

Denzel Curry is back with new music. On a new episode of Carole & Tuesday Wednesday, the show’s character Ezekiel performs Curry’s “Crash The Server” on his behalf in a scripted rap battle among the show’s characters. Curry waxes poetic on a nostalgic, soulful beat, continuing to raise his star with its appearance on a Netflix series.

“Prophet Ezekiel, AKA the prophecy,” Curry raps. “I had to give you my government so you’d know me properly / See this is my property, yet the system don’t give a damn / Take Mars, remove the S, spell it backwards, I’m a ram / This the jam.”

The song is produced by Flying Lotus. The duo previously collaborated on Flying Lotus’ latest album Flamagra released via Warp in May on the track “Black Balloons Reprise.”

“Crash The Server” unepectedly leaked online in July, but the song was always intended for Netflix. Flying Lotus performed the song during his set for Warp Records’ 30th Anniversary in June, with the tracklist’s credits attributed to Carole & Tuesday stating that the track was unreleased. “Crash The Server” joins “Psycho Criminal” and “Shawshank” as songs that Curry officially premiered this summer. Curry’s latest album Zuu was released via Loma Vista.

tekashi-69.jpgGetty Image

It’s almost time for Tekashi 69 to take the stand as a witness in the racketeering case against his former Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods associates and according to Complex, Tekashi and the prosecution received a huge break in court earlier today when the judge ruled that the defense cannot bring up his previous sex crime conviction or the accusations of abuse leveled against him by an ex.

Tekashi was convicted of using a minor in a sexual performance in 2015 after posting an explicit video to Instagram of two men engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl. US Attorney Geoffrey Berman argued that mentioning the case could unfairly bias a jury against his potential testimony against the Nine Treys. Tekashi brokered a plea deal to testify against them in exchange for a reduced sentence in his own conviction for racketeering and other violent crimes.

The defense in the case wanted to use Tekashi’s later media statements about the sex case to cast doubt on the veracity of his testimony, given he “lied” about the case in the media on several occasions. The judge, Paul Engelmayer, ruled that the defense can only mention that 69 was previously convicted of a felony, but cannot mention the details of the case, nor can the defense bring up the more recent reports of abuse allegations against the rapper by his ex-girlfriend Sara Molina. Partial lyrics from his songs, however, will be permissible, since he mentions the gang and their violent activities in lines from songs like “Billy,” “Gummo,” and “Kooda.”

The trial will be on September 16, after one final pre-trial hearing on September 10.

In the new video for Rexx Life Raj’s new video, “Moonwalk,” space ranger Kenny Beats has been missing since the 1980s, so it’s up to Raj to suit up and bring him back. Inspired by sci-fi, B movies, the “Moonwalk” video sees Raj complete a battery of tests before being launched to the moon to look for Kenny Beats, but when Raj gets there, he’s still unprepared for what he finds. Using clever camera tricks, green screen, and plenty of gravity-defying wire stunts, the video is an amusing companion to the vibey track, which also appears on the soundtrack of NBA 2K20.

Raj has been working on his upcoming album which is due later this year, dropping off the California Poppy and En Route EPs along the way. Whether “Moonwalk” is an official single or just a placeholder until the real rollout begins, it’s an excellent introduction to the Berkley, California rapper’s melodic style, featuring his signature wordplay and woozy flow. Lyrically, the track finds Raj spitting upper echelon lifestyle raps but working to remain relatable to the point of even joking: “Baggage claim like I work at Spirit, but it’s only Spirit so you can relate to it.”

For more Rexx Life Raj, check out his August single, “Grey Clouds & Raindrops.”

After spending an amazing 19 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” finally lost its No. 1 spot. Now that the viral hit is no longer the top song in the country, Lil Nas X has shifted his focus to his other big single, “Panini.”

To kick off September, Lil Nas x apologized for the delay with the song’s video, writing, “sorry the panini video taking so long they are still editing the scene where i cry in the bath tub.” Jokes aside, Lil Nas X finally dropped the “Panini” video this morning, and while there’s no bathtub cry involved, there is a lot of Lil Nas X.

The video follows a woman in the distant future, a future where Lil Nas X is omnipresent, with his face on billboards and holograms everywhere. The protagonist tries unsuccessfully to escape Lil Nas X, and is eventually driven to take a flight out of the country. Even that doesn’t work, though, because as we learned during those 19 weeks of “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X cannot be ignored.

This new clip comes shortly after Lil Nas X earned himself a CMA Award nomination for “Old Town Road,” which is up for Music Event Of The Year.

Watch the “Panini” video above.

Lil Nas X’s historical run at No. 1 on the Hot 100 was made even more historical when he came out as queer while “Old Town Road” continued to dominate the chart earlier this year. Naturally, the subject was raised during Nas’ appearance on the LeBron James talk show, The Shop last night, with Maverick Carter asking Nas why he came out when he did. Nas began to explain, but was interrupted by fellow guest Kevin Hart, who questioned why it should be a big deal. “He said he’s gay,” he replied, “So what?”

.@lilnasx speaks the truth about his choice to come out while at the top. More of The Shop on @HBO now! pic.twitter.com/wETNaPUU5t

— UNINTERRUPTED (@uninterrupted) September 4, 2019

Nas tried to take the opportunity to elaborate, explaining, “It’s just like growing up… I’m growing up to hate this sh*t.” When Hart interrupted again, trying to undercut Nas’ point by questioning, “Hate what?” the “Panini” rapper subtly checked the gaslighting effort without acknowledging it, expanding on his earlier point. “Homosexuality,” he said. “Gay people. Come on now. If you’re really from the hood you should know it’s not something…. so it’s like for me, the cool dude with the song on top of everything, to say this any other time like I’m doing this for attention in my eyes. But if you’re doing this while you at the top you know it’s like for real and it shows that it doesn’t really matter.”

Hart was previously criticized online for past accusations of homophobia, prompting him to drop out of hosting the Oscars and issue an apology for his use of anti-gay rhetoric in his prior standup specials. Hart is recovering from back surgery after getting into an auto wreck over the weekend.

Lil Nas X is no stranger to controversy himself; earlier this year, he was also taken to task by the #LilNasXIsOverParty hashtag, which dredged up old, Islamophobic tweets from an old fan account he used to run. Like Hart, Nas also apologized, scrubbing the old tweets and acknowledging that he was wrong to make jokes at the expense of other marginalized groups.

Today, the Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a 23-year-old Hollywood Hills resident named Cameron Pettit for allegedly selling Mac Miller counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl before his death from overdose, according to LA’s Fox affiliate reporter Bill Melugin and other sources. Melugin tweeted a copy of a report from the DEA announcing Pettit’s arrest as well as the charges against him. A copy of the report can be viewed below.

BREAKING: DEA announces arrest of a Hollywood Hills man in connection to death of rapper #MacMiller. 23 y/o Cameron Pettit accused of selling #MacMiller counterfeit drugs containing fentanyl two days before he died of an overdose. Oxycodone, cocaine, & Xanax mentioned. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/u1ojBsCoBU

— Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) September 4, 2019

According to the press release, Pettit allegedly knowingly sold the pills to Miller two days before Mac died of overdose. Pettit was arrested by the DEA’s Fusion Task Force on a “distribution of a controlled substance” warrant this morning, and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. The report states that Pettit agreed to sell Miller with oxycodone, cocaine, and Xanax, but instead gave him counterfeit oxycodone containing the synthetic opioid fentanyl, which is 50 times more potent than heroin.

Mac’s struggles with substance abuse were well-documented — most often, by Mac himself on albums like Watching Movies With The Sound Off and in interviews where he acknowledged that drugs were holding back his career. On latter albums such as The Divine Feminine and his final album Swimming, it seemed he was coming to terms with his issues, but was later arrested for drunk driving just before the release of Swimming, indicating that his struggle continued. Unfortunately, he was robbed of the opportunity to make a full recovery; hopefully, hip-hop can learn from his cautionary example.

Mac Miller is a Warner Music artist. .

Oops, Azealia Banks is clout-chasing again. Tuesday, Azealia Banks took to Instagram to post her opinion of fellow female artist Lizzo, while comparing her to Adele and Jasmine Sullivan. Seemingly unprovoked and in the comments section to an unidentified post, Banks engages in a conversation with users posting a series of opinions.

First, Banks equates Lizzo to Jasmine Sullivan with the latter not achieving the same feats, then she proceeds to imply that Lizzo, unlike Sullivan, is making a fool of herself. In a backhanded compliment, Banks says Lizzo is better than Adele, who both resemble each other to some extent, though Adele is Caucasian. Whether lost in translation or if it’s just a case of right message, wrong messenger, Banks says that they (referring to white people) better let Lizzo be a “big star” without having to do the “extra sh*t.”

https://twitter.com/nicole31556167/status/1168916757551210498?s=20

In her following post, Banks says she sees the body positivity angle that Lizzo is going for, but that it comes off as Lizzo “making a fool” of herself for “white America.” In addition, Banks says Lizzo isn’t talented, but that she’s new and listens to execs.

Piggybacking off of her second post, Banks uses Cardi B and Lil Nas X as an example of artists who are new and listen. For her finale fourth post, Banks flat-out says that Lizzo’s songs and her live set aren’t good, but in the same breath says Lizzo is talented. You can read Banks’ posts in their entirety above. Banks has attacked a slew of artists unprovoked in the past, including Lana Del Ray, Remy Ma, RZA, and Nicki Minaj.

Conway The Machine is back with more of his signature, sinister, street slang on “Tito’s Back,” the lead single from his upcoming mixtape, Look What I Became… along with his Griselda Records cohorts Benny The Butcher and Westside Gunn. The Buffalo, NY rapper and Griselda founder’s new tape offers up a prelude to his upcoming Shady Records debut, God Don’t Make Mistakes, due out in October.

Over a brick-hard beat produced by Daringer, Conway, Benny, and Gunn do what they do best: Snarl and sneer their way through mean-mug verses sprinkled with silver-tongued punchlines and wise-guy wordplay. The way the trio makes rhymes ping-pong throughout their verses while still projecting the stone-faced menace of the grimy Buffalo streets they hail from is honestly impressive, with “Tito’s Back” delivering a sample of exactly the qualities that inured them to their growing audience and secured them a deal with Shady Records in 2017.

In the press release announcing the new track and mixtape, Conway says, “Look What I Became… is an appetizer before God Don’t Mistakes. I’m just staying on fire and keeping the streets feed and satisfied…. I came from the bottom, from nothing, and now I’m on a major label and making music with Eminem. This project is a blueprint of that.”
